Top 10 Life Report Episodes of 2013

I’m counting down the most downloaded episodes of Life Report published last year, with my new thoughts on the episode looking back. (Combined stats from YouTube and the audio MP3 downloads.) Have you heard all of these? Which one is your favorite?

#10: Practical Resources for Highschool and College Students

After having done some work with Students for Life of America, there are few pro-life groups that impress me as much as they do. It was great having their California field rep and a friend of mine, Casey Tesauro on to talk about the resources they offer college clubs and now high school groups as well.

#9: Should Pro-Lifers Be Open-Minded Too?

This might be my favorite topic of the year, if nothing else then because it’s so unusual and our response was so surprising to new Life Report listeners. But I also will never forget finding the post on LifeNews.com’s Facebook page and reading 148 out of 150 comments making fun of us or mouthing off, simply reacting to the headline without having read what we meant by “open-minded” or why we think it’s a virtue. I realized that there is still a lot of work to do in helping people on both sides of this issue to think more carefully and communicate more persuasively.

How to Record Podcasts With Multiple People

I was recently asked about the audio equipment we use for podcasting by somebody else who wants to podcast with multiple people in a room. In case you’ve ever wondered how we do this, here’s some information both on how we first did it, and how we’re doing it now.

How we did it five years ago:

  • Everybody got their own mic/stand.
  • All mic cables (XLR) run into a single cheap mixer. We used a Behringer XENYX 1202FX mixer.
  • A cable goes from one of the main outputs of the Behringer into the record/line in port on a laptop, that records the audio using software. I was using the free Audacity program at first, which records fine but is harder to edit with.  Sony Vegas Pro is user-friendly, better for editing, and handles real-time recording as well.

Look at the picture below to see what we were doing in the first several months of Life Report tapings.

Update: Our Publishing Schedule is Changing

Season 3 is over so we’re on break until July 1, when Season 4 starts. We’re super excited about the guests and topics we’re getting lined up for that. Our publishing schedule will be one full episode every other week, and on the off weeks, we’ll be publishing more bonus content than we ever have before, including listener mail responses and our new series, “Gabi vs. Memes.” You should see Gabi’s face light up when we talk about that series…
