#134: Chicago Tribune Uncovers Abortion Reporting Controversy

Download Audio MP3 | 00:27:35

Josh has been doing research and making calls to experts about the front page Chicago Tribune story that there are thousands of unreported abortions in Illinois. After explaining what’s going on, Josh has some questions for pro-choice people to consider, as well as a warning to pro-lifers about how NOT to use this story.

Topic 1: Satirical Pro-Life Video Depicts Scarlett Johansson in KKK Robe for Promoting Planned Parenthood

The Life Report team discusses this question: assuming for sake of argument that PP is in fact a racist organization, is it wise for pro-lifers to make satirical videos like this? Why or why not?

Click here to watch the satirical video we’re discussing.

Topic 2: Donald Trump’s Pro-Life Views are Grounded in Irrelevance

Donald Trump, when he was running as an official GOP presidential candidate, explained his pro-life convictions this way to CBN:

“A friend of mine, his wife was pregnant, in this case married, and she was pregnant, and he was going to—they were going to—he didn’t really want the baby. And he was telling me the story, he was crying as he was telling me. They ended up for some reason—amazingly, through luck, because they didn’t have the right timing—he ends up having the baby. And the baby is the apple of his eye. He says it’s the greatest thing that ever happened to him . . . And I am pro-life.”

The Life Report team explains why this has got to be the worst attempt ever at grounding the view that abortion should be legal. We close by explaining how YOU could use stories like this to start conversations on abortion with pro-abortion-choice people.

#129: Is Planned Parenthood Racist?

Download Audio MP3 | 00:28:30

Jay Watts from Life Training Institute join the Life Report team via Skype for a round table discussion on whether modern day Planned Parenthood is actually a racist organization. Jay offers a brief biography on Margaret Sanger and the two most significant events in her life. In response to the question of whether Sanger was racist, Jay responds that “racist” is too limiting a term for her.

Also discussed are the stats that seem to implicate Planned Parenthood in targeting minorities, as well as the location of some of their clinics in minority neighborhoods, and the Live Action Racism Project.

Finally Josh offers an alternative explanation for the higher abortion rate in the black community and the location of some Planned Parenthood clinics in minority neighborhoods.

Related Notes:

Here are the stats that Josh didn’t have in front of him during the show, from the Alan Guttmacher Institute.

Abortion Rates by Ethnicity:

  • Non-Hispanic White: 11 out of 1,000 women have an abortion
  • Hispanic: 28 out of 1,000
  • African-American: 50 out of 1,000

NEW: Josh Brahm Live – “Planned Parenthood Unveiled”

Listen to the newly updated version of Josh’s popular presentation, “Planned Parenthood Unveiled: What They Don’t Want You to Know.” This was delivered at Free Grace Church in June, 2011.

Many people automatically associate Planned Parenthood with abortion. It’s appropriate; they are the nation’s leading abortion provider. However, there’s a lot more to Planned Parenthood than just abortions. After discussing many of these sordid details, Josh details his controversial opinion that Planned Parenthood is NOT a racist organization, and responds to the counter-arguments often made about this subject.

PG-13 Warning: The details, particularly in the sections about Planned Parenthood’s teen website is not kid-friendly. For younger teens, parental discretion is advised.

  1. Download the Presentation: (1 hour, 12 minutes)
  2. Download the Q&A Session: (30 minutes)

Outline:

  • The Difference Between This Presentation and an Apologetics Presentation
  • When You Should and Should NOT Use This Information
  • Planned Parenthood: The “Starbucks of Abortion”
  • Free Abortions to 9/11 and Katrina Victims
  • Opposes Parental Notification Laws
  • Caught Promoting Violence Against Pro-Lifers
  • “Choice on Earth” Christmas Cards
  • Promotes Promiscuity in Teens
  • Protects Statutory Rapists
  • Documented Proof of the Selling of Fetal Body Parts
  • Is Planned Parenthood Racist?
  • So What Can We Do?

Questions from the Q&A Session: (Separate Download)

  1. When Planned Parenthood sells fetal body parts, do they think those are human body parts? And if they don’t think they’re human, why would they try to hide that they’re selling them?
  2. We have all these Live Action sting videos. Why aren’t the clinics shown in the tapes shut down, or the employees fired?
  3. Do you think Planned Parenthood’s close relationship with politically powerful people are why regulations for their clinics seems to be so lax?
  4. Do you think Planned Parenthood’s higher clinic standards gives more credibility to the abortion industry?
  5. How would you respond to someone who says abortion should be available to women who would die or were raped?

On conspiracy theories:

  • “Reasons to Believe” is a Christian apologetics website, and they had two great podcast episodes about conspiracy theories. These were helpful to me in preparing the “is Planned Parenthood racist” section, but I didn’t have time to get into this much detail on general problems with conspiracy theories. So if this subject interests you, you can learn more here:

BONUS: Want to hear more debate on the Planned Parenthood / racism subject? Download this Q&A session from a similar presentation given last year:
  1. I heard of an abortion clinic owner who is a racist and has said he wants to eliminate Hispanic babies.
  2. If focusing on racism saves more babies by hurting Planned Parenthood, shouldn’t we focus on racism?
  3. Walter Hoye says that 100 years from now there’s not going to be a black race.
  4. The Georgia “Endangered Species” billboards aren’t actually saying that Planned Parenthood is racist, are they?
  5. But some good will come from the billboards, right?
  6. But there was a lot of buzz about it…
  7. In the end, isn’t the goal to keep this stuff out there? And if some people have a different way of doing that, isn’t that good?
  8. We’re never going to be able to do anything perfectly, because as soon as it wouldn’t offend anybody, it wouldn’t help.
  9. How does Planned Parenthood get into schools, and what can I do about it?
  10. But a non-Planned Parenthood presenter would probably be teaching the same information, so is that any better?
  11. If there’s more than one abortion facility in town, and one of them is Planned Parenthood, should we focus on Planned Parenthood?
  12. Do you have a training for sidewalk counseling?

Live Action President Lila Rose and Media Director David Schmidt join Josh to discuss their latest project, IStandWithIndiana.org. They explain why Indiana is the “ground zero” of the abortion battle right now, discuss their project and Planned Parenthood’s reaction to it. They then respond to listener comments & questions, from both pro-lifers and pro-choicers:

  1. “If I were a woman in that state and found out I had cervical cancer too late because i couldn’t go to Planned Parenthood, I would sue the crap out of the government, Live Action and every other lobby organization.”
  2. “Lila is Catholic. A great many Catholic theologians say that Lila should change her tactics, because it is never justified to use evil means (deception) to achieve a good end. What do you think of that debate, and do you consider the lies you tell Planned Parenthood workers to be sinful?”
  3. “What do you feel will be the greatest positive result for society from the criminalization of abortion that is not ‘less deaths of embryos & fetuses’?”
  4. “Will Live Action continue to target Planned Parenthood or do you ever plan on infiltrating independent clinics?”
  5. “Why don’t you do something more valuable with your time involving unwanted children that are already here?”
  6. “What gives you the right to dictate other women’s choices?”

#113: Bad Logic From BOTH Sides of the Abortion Debate

Download Audio MP3 | 00:28:42

The show starts with Kyle confessing to an addiction to a massive online multiplayer Lord of the Rings game. Hilarity ensues.

We get the chance to correct faulty logic from both sides of the abortion debate in this episode. We go from pro-life YouTube commenters stating that a CGI animation of fetal development is “proof that life begins at conception” to Planned Parenthood volunteers declaring war on science in a public debate.

Pro-choicers, can you show me evidence that a fetal heartbeat starts at 24 weeks. Email me at Josh@FresnoProLife.org.

A Message to Pro-Life Advocates in Light of Gosnell’s Shop of Horrors

by Josh Brahm

This has been a really bad publicity week for abortion providers. First the national controversy over the horrors that went on behind the scenes at “Doctor” Gosnell’s abortion facility. Now an Associated Press story is implying that Live Action is getting ready to release videos exposing several Planned Parenthood employees of covering up sex trafficking with various PP health services. All of this while Abby Johnson’s tell-all book “Unplanned” has been on Amazon.com’s Top 100 Bestselling Books List for two weeks. Abby’s book is hardly the first book to be written that exposes what goes on at many abortion facilities (see here, here, and here), though it will probably forever be the most notable.

As atrocious as Gosnell’s barbaric acts were, and as bad as covering up sex trafficking is…those things are not what make abortion wrong.

Abortion is wrong because it unjustifiably takes the life of a human being.

The shocking nature of these stories is precisely the reason that pro-life advocates must be especially careful in the next few months to consider what they will say if their friend asks, “so, why are you pro-life?”

The lazy way out would be to reply with something like, “have you heard about the freaky abortionists in those places? They keep fetal body parts in jars! How could I not be pro-life?”

This strategy is dangerous even though it may sometimes work.

#095: Walter Hoye takes on the Life Report Questionnaire

Download Audio MP3 | Duration: 00:22:41

Walter Hoye takes on the Life Report Questionnaire. Here are the 9 questions that we ask EVERY “pro-life celebrity” we interview on our show:

  1. What did you get in trouble for as a child?
  2. What is your favorite movie, and why?
  3. What has been the pro-life movement’s greatest victory (or victories) so far?
  4. What has been the pro-life movement’s greatest failing or weakness?
  5. Graphic Pictures: Should we use them, and if so, how, when, and where?
  6. Stem Cell Research & Human Cloning: What should pro-lifers be doing about this, and why?
  7. Assisted Suicide & Euthanasia: What should pro-lifers be doing about this, and why?
  8. How should pro-lifers interact with those who are pro-abortion-choice?
  9. What single thing should pro-lifers be doing that most are NOT doing right now?

Highlight: In response to question #8, Walter brings in his personal experiences outside the abortion facility in his answer.

Josh Brahm was recently interviewed by Immaculate Heart Radio’s “Gift of Life” program. The show has an estimated audience of one million listeners, and the topics included, “why did you start a podcast in the first place;” “what topics do you often speak on;” “what do you think about Planned Parenthood;” and “why are churches not more involved in ending abortion?”
